Open competition for a daycare in St. Gallen, 2015
The new building for the Sömmerliwiese day care center marks the north-eastern end of the Sömmerliwiese as an elongated structure. The reference to the meadow that surrounds the building becomes the defining element of the design and determines the orientation of the rooms and entrances. Access to the property is from Schönaustrasse, which is directly adjacent to the parking spaces and bicycle stands. A small square welcomes visitors: with its paved floor, it forms the threshold between the street and the day care center and invites them to take a short break on the bench that wraps around the mighty trunk of the existing plane tree.
